Sakinah Ishmael
Director of Operations
Sakinah is known for her leadership in spearheading community projects, including establishing the first Islamic-based homeschool co-op in South Jersey. Her years of homeschooling her own children have been a journey of learning and growth. Sakinah believes in giving young children the freedom to play, create, and engage in real-life learning experiences, which build a strong foundation for their education.
She emphasizes that parents must invest in their own growth to properly guide their children. For her, reading is at the heart of home education—engaging children’s imaginations and sparking a love for lifelong learning. Sakinah encourages parents to read aloud to their children, focusing on well-written, captivating books that immerse young readers in the lives, places, and stories of the characters. She advocates for learning through storytelling rather than relying on dull academic drills, ensuring that children remain inspired and excited about their education.
With a background in human services, peer and life skills counseling, and lactation support, Sakinah offers a unique perspective as a working mother and homeschooler. She remains passionate about empowering and encouraging other mothers to take on the rewarding journey of homeschooling with confidence.
